The Top Five Issues in Ag Law highlights Ag Dinner
The Top Five issues in Ag Law will be the feature presentation at the Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce annual Ag Dinner on Thursday, March 10, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Greensburg. Tickets are $15 and includes a pork chop dinner. Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner starts at 6:30 p.m.
Guest speaker Brianna J. Schroeder of Janzen Agricultural Law, LLC, will cover five legal topics including soil/groundwater health; employment law; farm data; the Right to Farm Act; and gene editing.
“These topics may jump around a bit, but we believe they ensure there will be something for everyone involved in agriculture and attending our event,” Chamber Ag Dinner Chairman Nick Obermeyer of the Obermeyer Agri Group said. “Ag law is so complex these days. It is definitely something today’s farmers and farm related businesses cannot ignore.”
Brianna Schroeder grew up in a family of teachers in the farmhouse built by her great-grandparents in northeastern Indiana. She spent her childhood summers baling straw, mowing lawns, and playing sports. Now she focuses her legal practice on litigating complex environmental matters, drafting contracts for agribusinesses and family farms, and assisting agricultural clients with regulatory compliance. She has diverse agricultural experience, from defending turkey and dairy farms from nuisance suits to negotiating farm leases and advising farmers on wetlands compliance. Brianna has also litigated environmental and agricultural insurance coverage, environmental liability, zoning, and other complex litigation matters throughout Illinois and Indiana, representing a wide variety of clients from large corporations to municipalities to private individuals.
Brianna has authored numerous articles and given presentations on a variety of relevant topics, including agricultural case law updates, land application leases, the Clean Water Act, Swampbuster and wetlands compliance, Midwestern wine and agri-tourism, food law, and insurance coverage.
Reservations to the event may be made by Thursday, March 3 by calling the Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce at 812-663-2832 or by registering online at www.greensburgchamber.com.
